Thanksgiving Break is almost here, but we still have tons of exciting adventures to explore until then! This week, we're crafting Expository Essays in response to some of the unique author's craft elements Jerry Spinelli uses in Maniac Magee (also called "Extended Learning Choice").
Students will also be exploring Spinelli's unique writing style by mimicking his use of descriptive and figurative language in their own writing.
We're also building a deeper understanding of the novel through questioning-- students will dig deeper by asking themselves different levels of questions, and then answering them. In questioning themselves, students are considering what the author thinks is important in the novel for the reader to understand.
Finally, next week on Monday, we will take a quiz over Part I of the novel, chapters 1-21. If students have been reading and completing their Extension Questions all along, they are set for the quiz. I encourage students to go back and do the questions if they haven't to better prepare themselves.
